பிட்மன் சில நினைவுகள்!! PITMAN - Some nostalgic memories!!

In memory of Sir Isaac PITMAN (1813-1897)

There used to be a popular saying:

One who learns any of these would never forget the techniques of these for life, until he / she becomes insane:

a) Cycle (Cycling)

b) Swimming (in any form)

c) Shorthand (PITMAN version is highly popular in India)

Those who are presently aged around 45-75 know what's 'Shorthand' and how it was significant in their early life of 'a meaningful career' however anyone would have crossed different milestones in their career path becoming CEOs, CFOs, self-made Enterprising Business Magnets or Corporate Bosses, or made their career in any which way in their Civil Service ambitions (IAS, IFS, ICS, IPS and so on). 

However one might have succeeded in any faculty of professional career, their command over English or the chosen language (in Shorthand skills), they would have definitely cherished an enormously unforgettable memories that they have picked up in their early days while learning this skill called 'Shorthand'.  

Many of us who are sharing our thoughts in FB or Twitter or any social medium, even in Journalism, in the absence of a basic / fundamental degree like BA, BSc, BCom or any higher variations of Post-Graduate qualifications, the basic proficiency in Shorthand would have given the impetus to grow themselves horizontally if not vertically in their career path. 

Whether we as FB users would have wantedly or deliberately conveyed our thoughts in any form (write-ups, tit bits, articles or a travelog in whatever we chose to share, it need not be having a professional writer's or creator's nuances with all its vocabulary, but, the very basic skills that the present day Adults (45-75 age group) would have definitely got this via their stenographic skills learned via Tamil/English Typewriting and Shorthand, and those from north, with Hindi Shorthand, if there was any. 

Thus we can never forget the Shorthand skills for ever. 

I don't know why and how I thought of this topic today, somehow PITMAN came to my mind, so in memory of that great soul, I thought of rendering my tributes to him who has given us life by that technique with which many in India at least made their blossom.  Long Live PITMAN!! 

ஸர் ஐசக் பிட்மன் (1813-1897):

முன்னெல்லாம் சொல்வார்கள், ஒருவன் வாழ்வில் இவற்றை கற்றுக்கொண்டால் சாகும்வரை, அவன் மனம் பிறழாதவரை, மறக்கவே மாட்டான்:

அ) சைக்கிள் ஓட்டுதல்

ஆ) நீச்சல் (எந்த முறையானாலும்)

இ) சுருக்கெழுத்து (ஷார்ட் ஹான்ட், பிட்மன் வகை ரொம்பவே பாப்புலர் இந்தியாவில்)

தற்போது 45 முதல் 75 வரை வயதுள்ள மக்களுக்கு நன்றாகத் தெரியும், புரியும், ஷார்ட் ஹேன்ட்னா என்ன? அந்தக் கலை அவர்களுக்கு எந்த வகையில் அவர்களின் தொழில் நிமித்தம் ஆரம்ப காலத்தில் கைகொடுத்தது, பிறகு அவர்கள் ஒரு நிறுவனத்தின் உயர் பதவிகளில் பற்பலவாறு முன்னேறியிருக்கலாம், ஒரு பெரிய அதிகாரியாகவோ (அட்மினிஸ்ட்ரேஷன், ஃபைனான்ஸ், இத்யாதி); அல்லது அவர்கள் பிற்காலத்தில் சுய தொழில் ஆரம்பித்து தானே தங்களுக்கு முதலாளியாகவோ தொழில் முனைவோராகவோ ஆகியிருக்கலாம். இல்லாவிட்டால் மத்திய மாநில அரசுப் பதவிகளில் ஐஏஎஸ், ஐபிஎஸ், ஐஎஃஃப் எஸ், என்று முன்னேறியிருக்கலாம். 

ஆனால் அவர்களது ஆரம்பக் காலத்தில் அவர்கள் கற்ற ஆங்கிலம் அல்லது மொழி வாரி வளர்ச்சி, பாண்டித்தியம், இவைகளில் இந்த சுருக்கெழுத்து என்பது ஒரு மறுக்க முடியாத இடம் பெற்றிருக்கும். அடிப்படையில் ஒரு பட்டதாரியாக (பிஏ, பிஎஸ்ஸி, பிகாம்) வாய்ப்பிருந்தால் எம்.ஏ. எம்.எஸ்.சி, எம்.காம், முதலான முதுகலைப் பட்டங்கள் பிற்காலத்தில் அவர்கள் கைக்கொண்டிருக்கலாம், தத்தம் சொந்த முயற்சியில். 

இன்று நாம் முக நூல் முதலான ஊடகங்களில் நம் கருத்துக்களை பகிர்கிறோம், படைப்புக்களை கொணர்கிறோம், தெரிந்தோ தெரியாமலோ நமது மொழி ஆளுமை நம்மை வெளியுலகுக்கு காட்டுகிறது நம் படைப்புக்கள் மூலம். படைப்பு என்று வரும்போது அது ஒரு பெரிய இலக்கியவாதி அல்லது எழுத்தாளர் ரேஞ்சுக்கு இருக்கணும் என்பதில்லை. 

ஒரு பயண அனுபவம், ஒரு நிகழ்வு அதை விவரிக்கும் பாங்கு அதில் கூட நம் மொழி ஆளூமை நம்மை ஆட்கொள்வதோடு இல்லாமல் படிப்பவர்களையும் ஈர்த்து நமக்கான ஸ்தானத்தை கொடுக்கும். இதற்கு ஆதியில் நாம் கற்ற ஸ்டெனோகிராஃபி எனும் தமிழ்/ஆங்கில டைப்ரைட்டிங், சுருக்கெழுத்து ஒரு இன்றியமையாத தகுதியாய் இன்றைய முதியோருக்கு 'அன்று' இருந்தது என்பதில் எள்ளளவும் சந்தேகம் இல்லை. 

இன்று ஏன் பிட்மன் பற்றி எனக்கு எழுதத் தோன்றியது எனத் தெரியலை. அந்த அரிய கலை இல்லாவிடில் நம்மில் பலர், குறிப்பாக இந்தியாவில், தொழில் நிமித்தம் வளர்ந்திருக்கவே மாட்டோம். அந்த வகையில் பிட்மனின் தொழில் முறை அபிமானிகள் சார்பாக எனது ஆழ்ந்த வணக்கங்களையும் நினைவுகளையும் அந்த மகான் காட்டிய வழியில் நாமெல்லாம் வளர்ந்தோம், தொழிலில் ஒரு முன்னோடியாய் நம்மை நமக்கு அடையாளப்படுத்திய பிட்மன் அவர்களுக்கு கோடானுகோடி நன்றிகளும் மரியாதைகளூம் உரித்தாகட்டும்!!
